Henty Field Days 2011

Off in the distance past the tractor you can see the tails of the light aircraft. These planes are either for sale, or have been flown in by the "outback" farmers so they can visit the Field days. Wow! "Lets just hop in the plane and go shopping for a tractor..."
We are literally parked out in the fields, about 8 k's drive from the little town of Henty. Henty is midway between Wagga Wagga and Albury.
Here's my stall at the entrance of the huge long pavillion. It's about 150 metres long.

My stall crammed full of wonderful goodies for the ladies, from handbags, pashminas, retro fashion and vintage. The country-folk love my stall for its "uniqueness" and each year look forward to me coming down from Sydney! Nice to be appreciated!

Old and new!! The darling CWA ladies come around with their pram which has tea, coffee and homemade cakes in it. Meals on wheels :)
The new (or should I say "young") are the gorgous students from the local tafe and Billabong High School who model for us, do the hair and make-up. Just love the name "Billabong High"...how aussie is that!
These are a couple of my outfits on the catwalk/runway.The girls dont even have time to rehearse; they get their outfits at 10am and parade them at 11. This is 3 times a day, so they are to be commended! It always runs smoothly (amazes me!)
The fashion pavillion is quite huge as seen in this photo; a hub of activity from fashion parades to demos on scone making!
Ahh, time to relax. Been a hectic 3 days of parades, farmers, pub meals (huge steaks!) and country hospitality.

White Wedding Dress @ Bendigo Art Gallery

This exhibition is divine...I drove all the way from Sydney to see it! (Mind you I went via Boorowa's Running of the Sheep Festival near Yass...very Aussie) but I'll blog on that later!

I'd never been to Bendigo before, and my, what have I missed! Its a beautiful town, steeped in gold mining history, fabulous architecture, trams and snazzy boutiques! I was pleasantly surprised.
Before I even purchased my White Wedding entry ticket, I was drooling over the prospect of returning to see the Grace Kelly exhibition
which will open next year from March to June. I will coincide that visit after I finish the forthcoming Melbourne Vintage Fair which is on 18/19 & 20 May 2012, in Carlton. I'll just do a little detour via Bendigo!

It is a time-ticketed event, letting in probably 80 people each hour. I skipped past the queue for 1800's displays to the more modern brides, from 1900's on. Then I retraced my steps to have an easier look later. My favourite dress would be one from 1926, a perfectly plain bias cut silk dress, no fasteners or openings, just wiggle in! These brides certainly had the "waspish" waists!!

I enjoyed the social or society brides dresses, plus the stories behind their marriages, who they married and the families they married into.
Moving into the modern era brides I was spellbound by the Vivienne Westwood creation for Dita Von Teese, in purple shot taffeta of course! Not to be out-done by Gwen Stefanis number in silk faille where the hot-pink hem graduated in colour up to the cream bodice. But I think they were both outdone 70 years earlier by a 1938 bride who wore a
fire-engine red silk gauze knee length dress!!

This fabulous exhibition finishes on the 6th November; you just can't miss it ladies!

ANF/Orange Field Days 18-20 October

I've been 3 days out in the countryside, literally, for the Borenore/Orange "Field Days"  where farmers, tractors, sheep, light aircraft, fashion pavillions, CWA and scones all come together! Field Days are events that run for (usually) 3 days and cater for "the man on the land" who may need to buy a new tractor, 5 billion gallon water tank or a backhoe (as you do....)
I first started attending the Field Days several years ago, in Henty, Tocal and Orange. All are country towns in NSW, So where I fit in with my fashions are in the "Style Pavillions" aka Ladies Interest areas that cater for the poor women who are bored witless having to check out that blokey stuff. Those women love us, and have an excuse to shop and watch parades, then shop again! They really do appreciate having the opportunity to buy lovely things they don't normally see in their litttle outback towns or out on that station!

The photos are a bit dark but give you an idea of the parades; the theme this year at Borenore was celebrating 60 years of their Field Days (who'd have guessed!) by featuring Vintage and Retro fashions. Well, I'd just packed up from the successful Sydney  Love Vintage Fair just one day earlier, so this was perfect timing!

Henty Field Days Fashion Parades

Here are some of my gorgeous garments that will feature in the fashion parades at Henty this week.
20/21 & 22 Sept,     parades are 3 times a day in the Lifestyle Pavillion.
FYI Henty is a huge event out in the bush (and I mean THE BUSH!!) between Wagga Wagga and Albury. People come in the 1,000's, some even in light aircraft! (As there is a grass air strip next door, purpose built!)
This will be my 4th time selling at Henty, as I love the country charm, the folk and just getting away from the "big smoke" of Sydney and seeing my stock strutting the catwalk, modelled by the local girls from Billabong High (great name)
Students from the Tafe apply the makeup and style the hair, so it's a combined effort by all and so professionally presented.      Looking forward to the CWA scones too of course; forget Masterchef!!    Henty Field Days Fashion Parades     www/hmfd.com/    for 2012 details

Loxleys 60th

Well, we were supposed to be the Andrew Sisters, but everyone thought we were Air Hosties....so we adopted the new names of "Chicken" "Beef " or "Fish"....actually, I look like a drag queen...but a  howlingly funny night was had by all (probably 90 guests) Trolly Dollies...yeah right. Clue; I was carrying a bugle around

50s Fair at Wahroonga

I had a lovely browse around the Rose Seilder Historic House on Sunday. Every year 1000's of people descend on (and to) the property to admire the Harry Seilder architecture, but more so for the fabulous array of 1950's stalls scattered around the bushy grounds. Loved looking at all the vintage clothes, bric a brac, furniture and cars. The cars were outstanding! There was even an outdoor barber-shop; 2 chairs busy with customers. I decided to dress for the occassion and donned a gray shot silk 50's dress, with black full net petti peeping out. Upswept hair, resin necklace. I blended into the look of the day, fun!
I'm looking into having a stall there next year (usually we are skiing!) as I do really well at The Vintage Fair twice a year at Canterbury Race Course. More on that later!
